2024 SEGD's Conference Experience Dallas

Our Annual Conference gathers interdisciplinary thought leaders in Dallas, TX, September 26-28, 2024, to share inspiration, strategies and ideas designed to enhance the human experience.

The 2024 SEGD Conference Experience Dallas will convene creative luminaries to explore the impact experiential design has had on our local and global communities. The Conference promises three inspirational days of interactive workshops, tours, networking opportunities, case studies, and programming from renowned speakers celebrating the evolution and challenges of experiential design.

SEGD has reserved a block of rooms at the Fairmont Dallas, our conference venue, for US $239 plus tax and fees per night. Infusing over two decades of design excellence into her role as CEO of SEGD, Cybelle Jones is not just a leader but a passionate advocate for the transformative power of experience design. Firmly grounded in the conviction that design has the capability to engender positive change, Cybelle drives her multidisciplinary community to create experiences that intimately connect people with places.

As the helm of SEGD, a non-profit member organization, Cybelle champions education, innovation, and design excellence. She works tirelessly to inspire the design of more equitable, sustainable, and user-centric environments, reflecting her belief in the pivotal role design plays in shaping our world.

Before taking the reins at SEGD, Cybelle etched a notable career as Principal of G&A. Her 25+ year tenure saw her lead several acclaimed design projects, including the National WWII Museum, the International Spy Museum, and the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Museum. These high-profile undertakings not only attest to her design prowess but also her ability to infuse creativity with strategic insights.

Cybelle’s influence extends beyond SEGD. As a thought leader, she has addressed audiences at prestigious forums like AAM, the V&A, FIT, AIGA, and MuseumNext. Her active involvement on various boards sees her push the boundaries of experience design, contributing to the evolution of the profession.

Driven by passion, guided by experience, and committed to innovation, Cybelle Jones is a beacon in the realm of design, illuminating the path to a more user-centric, equitable, and sustainable future.

Shane Allbritton has an educational and early work background in fine arts and environmental graphic design. Shane co-founded public art studio RE:site with Norman Lee in 2012, and centered their practice around site-specific storytelling through the lens of contemporary art. Her work responds to an ethos of place and memory, focusing on the recording, revealing, or celebration of historical narratives and ephemeral existence. As a visual storyteller and multi-disciplinary artist, Shane is deeply inspired by engagement with communities, survivors, heroes, and historians. She has dedicated over two decades to the healing arts and the expression of cultural stories through art and experiential design projects that remind us of our shared humanity.

Many projects start out as a simple sketch on napkin; others are simply a three-sentence concept; others yet, a 400 page specification. All start out as an idea that needs to go from the ethereal to the real. “Design requires development;” Paul is the talent who makes that happens, with spectacular results.

Paul was the founding partner of Avatar Media Design and still uses the simple tagline of “evolving context into content” for production design and content management. Paul is a 24+ year veteran Technical Director and Production Designer of corporate, social, and entertainment events, as well as media systems design and deployments.. He has provided production design and management services to such corporations as General Motors, Mercedes-Benz, Qualcomm, Sun Microsystems, as well as hundreds of corporate, social, and special events in Europe, China, Australia and the Middle East. He has also designed numerous media systems and facility installations for the likes of Cedars Sinai Medical Center, Nintendo, Marquee Nightclub Las Vegas, YouTube, and Google.

Paul is a graduate of UC San Diego with a degree in Human Information Processing and Mass Media effects. His experience runs the gamut from designing social and multinational productions, user experience centers, and being a stage and studio musician. He is as at home calling a large international stage show, as he is sitting behind a CAD station in the design studio on a remote northwest island, or when pulling it all together from 36,000 ft “somewhere over anywhere.” Paul is also a nationally published technical illustrator, and is in demand as a production industry technical trainer and technology consultant.

Kate Carey joined the Alamo team after 18 years at the McNay Art Museum. At the Alamo Carey has overseen the new audio tour narrated by Texas musician Ray Benson and the first augmented reality project--"Surrounded! The Alamo Augmented Experience."

A graduate of Austin College (Go Roos!) and the Austin College teacher program (M.A.T), Carey taught world history before transitioning to museum education. Before departing the McNay, Carey co-led the strategic plan goal of realizing The Studio, an interactive space blending artwork by a San Antonio artist, artwork from the McNay Collection, and a participatory visitor experience. Other highlights include her co-curating exhibitions American Dreams: Classic Cars and Postwar Paintings (2019), Fashion Nirvana: Runway to Everyday (2020), and Selena Forever/Siempre Selena (2020-2021).

A San Antonio food ambassador, Carey enjoys sharing food and drinks with colleagues and friends at Barbaro, Extra Fine, Hot Joy, Leo's Hideout, & Double Standard, restaurants her family owns, and spending time with her daughters doing all the sports.

Cheryl has built her 30-yr career on a passion for connecting people through storytelling. Her early academic and professional years as an architect and post-graduate training and practice in performance design have led her develop an interdisciplinary approach to elevate placetelling; engaging local culture, connecting to physical features and movement patterns, and adapting digital innovation to the evolving realities of our shared spaces.

Through her own studio and as a creative director with Moment Factory, she has led the creation of numerous permanent and temporary installations in private, institutional and corporate settings, focusing on the zones at the overlap of private real estate and the public realm. She is thrilled to have recently joined the futures team within HKS to amplify the integration of digital experience approaches within the practice, focussing on crafting a unique narrative for weaving curated digital enhancements into the built environment.

Sandra Bond Chapman, Chief Director of Center for BrainHealth® at The University of Texas at Dallas and Dee Wyly Distinguished University Professor in the School of Behavioral and Brain Sciences, is committed to enhancing human cognitive capacity and the underlying brain systems
across the lifespan.

Dr. Chapman is co-creator of The BrainHealth® Project, a collaboration of 32 of the world’s leading brain health experts focused on doubling peak brain performance, inoculating against decline and extending brain capacity to match our longer lifespan.

With more than 50 funded research grants and 200+ peer-reviewed publications, Dr. Chapman
directs clinical trials dedicated to developing, testing and applying novel and multi-dimensional
approaches to build cognitive capacity and well-being, improve life function and enhance supporting brain systems. She leads major international efforts to deliver the first-of-its-kind BrainHealth® Index –a composite measure of brain health – to motivate improvement in three broad domains: clarity, connectedness and emotional balance.

She is committed to democratizing access to strategies and tools to achieve for brain health what has been done for heart health. Her work is transforming how we care for our brain before something goes wrong, removing stigma, and elevating brain health with scientifically validated measurements, interventions and practices.

Jae-eun Chung is a Creative Director at Ralph Appelbaum Associates (RAA). She is an entrepreneurial design leader with extensive experience heading teams in global institutions such as the Guggenheim, Brooklyn Museum and Meta, where she successfully established creative visions for institutional branding, in exhibition experiences, and across a broad spectrum of special initiatives.

She has a strong interest and expertise in translating multifaceted design challenges into strategic creative solutions at scale in the realms of art, culture and technology.

Her projects and clients at RAA include “The People’s House: A White House Experience,” Washington, D.C.; UNICEF Headquarters Environmental Branding, New York, New York; Nationwide Children’s Hospital, Columbus Ohio; the William J. Clinton Presidential Center, Little Rock, Arkansas; the Grand Village of the Natchez Indians, Natchez, Mississippi; and the Wisconsin History Center, Madison, Wisconsin.

She holds an MBA from Cornell University, and BFA in Visual Communication Design from Seoul Women’s University in South Korea.

Drema Chávez serves as the senior Public Art Coordinator with the Office of Arts & Culture where she manages and coordinates public art commissions for the City of Dallas. She has overseen more than 20 public art projects including the new commissions at Dallas Love Field Airport as part of the airport’s modernization and expansion. She also manages projects with strong social and cultural significance such as the sculpture at Pike Park honoring the life and memory of Santos Rodriguez and We Are Music & Music is Us at Kiest Park, a work celebrating renown blues musicians Stevie Ray and Jimmie Vaughan. Her latest project, Shadow Lines by RE:site Studio, is a memorial to victims of racial violence in Dallas.
Drema began her career with the City of Dallas’ Public Library. She moved to the Latino Cultural Center in 2006 where she developed and coordinated Latine/Hispanic cultural programs and exhibits; a position that put her in touch with more than 1,000 local, national and international artists and organizations. She joined the Public Art Program in 2009. Drema holds a Bachelor of Art in Art History.

Roger is passionate about creating artful, immersive experiences at the intersection of technology, art, and culture, and has spent 13 years leading the creative development of experiences and live events across multiple platforms and media. As Principal Creative Director for a state-of-the-art, award-winning, mixed-use public arts and entertainment district – the Discovery District in Dallas, TX – Roger has led the creation of a broad and diverse library of immersive digital art and live event content. Roger has also led the development of fan experiences across an extensive portfolio of corporate sponsorships for some of the largest sports stadiums, pro sports leagues, and film festivals, as well as developing and directing immersive art and fan experiences with Warner Bros. Pictures, HBO, Warner Bros. Animation, and DC Comics.

2024 SEGD Fellow

Shirin Frangoul-Brückner is a visionary designer and founding partner of ATELIER BRÜCKNER, a global leader in museum and exhibition design. Since launching the firm in 1997, Shirin has grown it into an internationally acclaimed design powerhouse, known for integrating storytelling and multi-sensory experiences to create immersive environments.

Guided by the motto “Form Follows Content,” ATELIER BRÜCKNER’s projects artfully communicate content through narrative architecture. With offices in Stuttgart and Seoul, the firm handles global projects, such as the SEGD Global Design Award-winning Museum of the Future in Dubai.

Shirin’s influence extends beyond her firm, with her design methods and leadership shaping the future of exhibition design. She also contributes to professional associations, including the German Design Club, and serves as a University Council member at Augsburg University. Her dedication and innovative approach have solidified her as a trailblazer in the industry.

Nu Goteh is a multi-disciplinary creative & designer who works in audio, visual, and written mediums. He is the co-founder of the strategy and design studio, Room for Magic, and co-founder and creative director of partner publication, Deem Journal. Additionally, Nu is a professor at Parsons School of Design, leading a course entitled Design Dichotomies which explores the intersection of design and society. Nu’s practice is informed by his love for counter/subculture(s), his background as a Liberian-born refugee, and a lifelong dedication to building platforms that enable communities to engage in shared experiences.

In 2005, Nu began working with brands just before completing his undergraduate studies at the University of Massachusetts, Lowell. With a deeply informed understanding of sneaker culture, Nu transitioned from helping Puma develop content for this niche market to launching a full digital marketing strategy for the brand. This work laid the foundation for Nu’s exploration of how media platforms can help to shape and center lesser-heard narratives.

From here, Nu moved on to working in-house at RedBull and later to Sonos, where he further explored the ins and outs of building a brand. Skillfully, he created programming around music, art, and tech with a focus on adding real value and meaning to lifestyle branding.

Eventually, Nu found himself dispassionate with selling products. Disinterested in the idea of ‘cool,’ Nu decided to pivot to an analytical, research-driven approach to solving problems.

In 2016, Nu moved on to pursue a Masters Degree in Strategic Design Management at Parsons School of Design. He went from being a brand director, managing large teams and projects in Los Angeles to a grad student in New York, where he needed to re-acclimate to the learning environment. Parsons helped validate and resolve many of his ideas around human-centric design, problem-solving and its value for marginalized communities. It offered Nu a strong foundation and framework for approaching problem-solving, framing insights, and being able to articulate and communicate solutions. It was during this time that he worked as an Innovation Fellow at the design studio Openbox.

Shortly before finishing his Master’s, Nu joined the digital advertising agency AKQA as a strategist at their San Francisco office. He focused on using data to tell narratives that could be translated to creatives. It was here he realized he could be equal parts creative and a strategist, and that he didn’t fall squarely on either side. Nu began to understand that his process required autonomy and was most effective when he could fluctuate between the strategist and creative.

Evolving from his formative years in Massachusetts exploring Japanese Hip Hop magazines to a well-informed creative, Nu decided it was time to reimagined and reframe his relationship to work, and the type of projects he was interested in supporting. In 2018, he co-founded the independent design studio Room For Magic. His latest project is Deem Journal, which is the result of a decade of branding, research, strategic development, ideation, and production with the goal of creating equitable change into the way communities are being designed and represented. Deem Journal is a collaboration between Room for Magic and Openbox.

Liz Griswold is the Director of Education and Experience for SEGD. She is responsible for managing a portfolio of key internal projects and initiatives for the organization. With her focus aimed on strategic integration, Liz is responsible for the communication, management and logistical support of targeted milestones and projects. She contributes to knowledge-sharing efforts and coordinates with external partners and consultancy firms. Liz joined the SEGD staff in 2022, and has been an active professional member since 2005. In 2017, Liz co-founded the SEGD Raleigh Chapter, where she served as a Chapter Co-Chair from 2017 – 2022, and received the 2022 SEGD Chapter Chair Award. She also served as co-chair for the SEGD Emerging Experiential Professions (previously YDS) from 2020 – 2022. Prior to joining SEGD as a staff member, Liz Griswold led the Experiential Graphic Design markets for two different A/E firms.

Liz Griswold holds a B.S. in Graphic Arts from the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University, with a concentration in public relations and a minor in English.

Meet Lauren Kelly, the tech visionary behind Wayfindit and founder of Mustard Square LLC. With over two decades of expertise in crafting, building, and launching web-based software, Lauren’s journey began at UC Davis, where her fearless plunge into the worlds of Design and Managerial Economics set the stage for her extraordinary tech career.

Lauren’s creative prowess extends beyond corporate ventures. In her free time, she created Surveyor, an innovative iPhone app designed to streamline the auditing process for physical spaces intricately connected to her custom, cloud-based management system, EAMS.

Her work isn’t just impressive on paper; it has left a tangible mark at renowned places like Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, the Reagan Presidential Library, and numerous national architectural installations.

Norman Lee, along with Shane Allbritton, co-founded RE:site, a Houston-based art studio. Norman’s work responds to notions of community, identity, and narrative within the context of public space. He creates dynamic, multi-layered works that exist somewhere between art, landscape, and architecture. Drawing on a site’s cultural landscape to generate strong narratives, his work transcends the familiar while resonating with local meaning. As a conceptual artist, Norman explores the interconnectivity between themes and ideas that are not typically related, revealing deep resonances. Many of RE:site’s recent projects have focused on helping communities honor difficult histories and recover the voices of those who struggled for justice, freedom, and human dignity. Norman holds B.A. and M.A. degrees from The University of Texas at Austin.

Taekyeom is an award-winning multidisciplinary designer, educator, and maker. He is currently an Associate professor of Graphic Design at Indiana University Bloomington. He received an MFA degree in Graphic Design from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. His research explores unconventional materials and alternative solutions to create tangible typography, graphics, and even designed objects using digital fabrication. He infused 3D printing into his research and has been experimenting with various methods and materials for tactile experiences and accessible design. He presented through national and international conferences, including AIGA Design Conference, AIGA DEC, ATypI, Design Incubation, DEL, ISEA, IEEE VIS, TypeCon, Tipografia México, UCDA Education Summit, and NCECA. His work has been featured in various media. His research draws attention nationally and internationally. He exhibited his work and provided workshops and lectures across the country and abroad.

While art directing project teams within the three RSM Design studios, Harry Mark, FAIA brings his international architectural background, placemaking, and graphic design skills to each collaborative project. As Executive Director and Principal of RSM Design, Harry works at this intersection of architecture and graphics, leading the teams and clients to understand the importance of and the symbiotic relationship between branded graphics and experiential placemaking within the built environment. His work has helped transform difficult user experiences in projects in over 30 countries and 40 states adding a layer of clarity and organization with unexpected graphic interventions that reflect the cultural, community, physical, and emotional contexts of their locations.

Harry earned his Bachelor of Architecture from The University of Texas at Austin and a Master of Architecture from the University of Pennsylvania Graduate School of Fine Arts. Early in Harry’s career he honed his design and graphic sensibilities while working internationally as an Associate within RTKL’s Dallas and Tokyo offices, and as a Senior Associate with HOK Architects. Before focusing his career on the experiential graphics and branded environments realm with RSM Design, Harry established an independent design studio in Dallas, focusing on unique design interventions at a smaller local scales.

As a respected author and frequent speaker on industry issues and the recipient of numerous design awards, Harry’s designs and written articles have been published in several national magazines and journals and featured in exhibits throughout the United States. In 2015 Harry was elected to the prestigious College of Fellows of The American Institute of Architects. The Jury of Fellows cited Harry's "notable contributions to the advancement of the profession of architecture" through his work in graphic design, publication, and education. Two years later he was awarded the AIA’s President’s Medal. He currently serves on the Dean’s Advisory Council at the UT Austin School of Architecture.
Harry served as the editor of the award winning and nationally recognized Dallas architecture, arts, and community publication, Columns Magazine, for five years overseeing its transformation from a regional trade publication to a well-respected voice of architecture and design critique within the community. Additionally, along with his partners at RSM Design, he was the co-founder, publisher, and editor-in-chief for the design publication, Architype Review, which focused on the global discussion of design typologies in our industry.

When not focusing his time on crafting branded environments with the RSM Design team, Harry has spent each summer for the last 30 years as the senior architect at the UNESCO World Heritage archaeological site of Aphrodisias in Türkiye, teaching for New York University and Oxford University. He directs a team of graduate students each summer in the skilled craft of excavating, documenting, and reconstructing the classical antiquities in this Greco-Roman city dedicated to the goddess Aphrodite. Over the years, Harry’s drawings from the site have been published in over 35 academic journals, articles, and books.

Paul is a strategy and innovation leader focused on using design methods and technology to solve human, business, and built environment challenges. He guides clients and multidisciplinary teams toward breakthrough solutions that take shape in digital products, services, and physical spaces.

Paul has led digital design departments at Intersection (a subsidiary of Sidewalk Labs/Alphabet), in Arup’s Advanced Digital Engineering Group, and with numerous organizations ranging from startups to Fortune 500 companies. He is a founding partner at Noble, a NYC based MBE certified business focusing on user centered methods and emerging technology to transform the built environment.

With over twenty years of experience, he has established advisory and digital product design practices while leading award-winning efforts for cultural institutions, civic services, and property clients. Notable assignments include The Museum of Modern Art, Victoria and Albert Museum, Port Authority of NY/NJ, MTA Subway Digital Signage, Chicago Transit Authority, Alphabet, Samsung Electronics and LinkNYC. Paul served on the Board of Directors for SEGD, and is an associate professor at Pratt Institute and the School of Visual Arts.

Brian serves on Populous’ Americas Board of Directors and leads the Live Entertainment Venues practice segment. He is also responsible for building the Digital Entertainment and Brand Activation divisions for Populous. Through a core focus on future-forward innovation, next-gen consumerism, and connective strategy in the live entertainment, esports and gaming, and hospitality industries, he masterfully creates opportunities for his clients by elevating their brands and businesses and amplifies engagement by linking people to immersive user experiences on all levels, design mediums and interactive technologies.

Brian brings a wide spectrum of project expertise, having led the efforts for Comcast’s G4 Studios in Burbank, California, named Best New Headquarters in Los Angeles by the L.A. Business Journal, the comprehensive improvements Master Plans for Churchill Downs and Spaceport America, the groundbreaking T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Truist Park and the Battery District in Atlanta, Super Bowl Live at Super Bowl LII in Minneapolis, the NBA2K League’s Competition Broadcast Arenas program and was project director for the largest esports venue in North America, the Esports Stadium Arlington.

His award-winning work has garnered international acclaim in publications such as The New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Forbes, and Fast Company, and has been featured on Cheddar and the Discovery Channel. He has helped create transformative design solutions for his clients, having collaborated with countless professional teams, some of the world’s leading advertising agencies, the Olympic Games, the NFL, NBA, and Major League Baseball, and top brands including Adidas, Pepsi, Comcast, Activision Blizzard and Tencent.

Brian is a prominent public speaker and has been featured five times at SXSW on topics of futurism and design. In 2016, Brian was named to Building Design & Construction’s class of 40 under 40.

Dr. Upali Nanda is EVP and Global Sector Director for Innovation at HKS, an international architectural firm where she oversees a range of innovation practices that work within, through and beyond the built environment for meaningful impact. Prior to her current role she served as the global research director for the firm and as the Executive Director for the non-profit Center for Advanced Design Research and Education. Dr. Nanda teaches as Professor of Practice at the Taubman School of Architecture and Urban Planning at University of Michigan and serves on the board of the Academy for Neuroscience for Architecture. Her award-winning research around health and wellbeing, neuroscience and architecture, sensthetics, point of decision design, and outcome-driven design has been widely published. She has won various research and innovation awards including the 2018 Women in Architecture Innovator Award.

Amy Pratt is the Director of Real Estate for Blue Star Land, a Dallas Cowboys/Jerry Jones Entity. She is responsible for commercial real estate where she oversees the development, leasing, and marketing of The Star District, located on the 90-acre campus of the world headquarters of the Dallas Cowboys in Frisco, Texas. Recently, her role has expanded to include additional commercial and entertainment developments under Blue Star Land across North Texas.

Prior to her career in real estate, Amy was the Vice President of Events and Tours for Legends; a sports, entertainment, and media company. During her tenure, Amy was involved in the development and launch of The Star (Dallas Cowboys World Headquarters). In addition, she was also responsible for curating and implementing the private events and tour business for 30 Legends properties including AT&T Stadium, Mercedes Benz Stadium, Levi's Stadium, the Rose Bowl, and One World Observatory.
Also, within her time at Legends, Amy served as the Director of Sales at AT&T Stadium. She curated the stadium private event and tour business bringing in an average of $25million in revenue each year, breaking industry records.

Amy’s career in sports began as a sales consultant for the Dallas Cowboys and in group sales and sponsorship for the Arizona Coyotes Hockey Club.

Amy was a scholar athlete (Volleyball) and graduate of the University of South Carolina.

Jemma is Design Director for Studio Sc. Over her 20 year career she has had the opportunity to work with multi-disciplinary teams to bring holistic design solutions to branded environments both locally and around the world. Her passion is for authentic placemaking, strategic brand storytelling and user experience design within large public venues. She works at the intersection of Architecture, Interior Design, Brand Strategy and Graphic Design – drawing from each discipline and adding a deep understanding of user psychology and human centered design. Approaching a project from all angles and perspectives like this results in one of a kind environments that elevate the customer experience; orient, inform and delight; and ultimately generate revenue. She likes big budgets and she cannot lie, and she believes that ideas don’t run out – there are always more where that came from.

Justin is the Digital Experience Design (DXD) Practice Area Leader for Gensler’s South-Central region and the Austin Studio Director. He has more than 20 years of experience in digital design, having fulfilled the full gamut of design roles — from graphic designer to front-end web developer and project manager to account leader. Justin’s experience delivering design work and selling design services affords him with the ability to not only understand granular facets of design but also strategically partner with clients to identify solutions to their design challenges.

During his tenure at Gensler thus far, Justin has helped lead projects such as the AT&T Discovery District and Dell Interactive Wall at the Moody Center, among many others. Justin and his team use their expertise in technology and digital design to connect fans, travelers, guests, customers, visitors, and employees to each other in the built environment – whether through memorable interactions or engagement with rich media content.

Justin is a member of the Austin chapter of AIA, serves on the board of Design Austin, and teaches a course on Digital Experience Design at the University of Texas at Austin, in the School of Design and Creative Technologies.

Peter is one of the co-founders of NorthernLight. NorthernLight is a creative design agency based in Amsterdam, developing and designing and implementing transformative and purposeful experiences for brands, museums and public spaces. Northernlight’s transformative experiences aim to create spaces for new thinking, widening the perspectives of visitors, while taking them on a journey of discovery. We aspire to touch hearts, connect minds and activate hands. Our spaces are designed for interaction, to share stories and create memories. Beauty and inspiration as a catalyst for change towards a brighter future.

Peter has worked as a project leader and creative director on more than 100 projects in over 20 countries. He has extensive experience in the world of brand experiences, museum exhibitions and public space installations. Peter was keynote speaker at several conferences, such as the ECSITE conferences, the Hong Kong Business of Design Week, the PICNIC conference and the Xmedia Lab. He lived in China in 2008, to set up the NorthernLight Asia Pacific office.

Peter completed his MSc in Design Engineering summa cum laude at the Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands. Prior to founding NorthernLight, he worked as a designer for the NEMO science centre in Amsterdam, where he developed and designed the exhibition gallery on human psychology. Before that, he worked for 2 years as a photographer for Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), traveling to Albania, Kenya, Sudan, Malawi and Mozambique.

Marquise Stillwell is a designer and community builder with over two decades of experience. His career is driven by a deep curiosity about how people interact with their environments and the systems that shape those experiences. Marquise holds an MBA and an MA in Economics, which have informed his understanding of social behavior and spatial design.

In 2009, he founded Openbox, a design research and planning studio in New York City, exploring the intersection of people and systems. He later co-founded Opendox, a film company highlighting underrepresented narratives, and Deem Journal, focusing on design as a social practice. Marquise's work also includes co-founding Artmatr, merging digital technology with traditional art, and Urban Ocean Lab, addressing coastal resilience.

Marquise's core values—Inclusivity, People-Centered Design, Community, and Innovation—are at the heart of his work, which spans design, art, and culture, aiming to create spaces that embrace our shared humanity while valuing our differences.

Beth Stricker is the Chief Creative Officer at the Witte Museum in San Antonio, Texas, where she leads the museum's exhibitions, graphics, and communications teams. With this talented group, Beth ensures integrated branding, messaging, and visitor experience that reveal the rich tapestry of Texas Deep Time. Her work illustrates narratives that span millions of years to the present, inspiring people to shape the future of Texas through transformative experiences in nature, science, and culture. With over 15 years in the field, Beth is a thoughtful leader in layered, interdisciplinary storytelling rooted in community, having developed and designed impactful, award-winning exhibitions, including "Black Cowboys: An American Story." She holds an MFA in Museum Exhibition Planning & Design and is the author of the children's book, "Daring to Dig: Women in American Paleontology."

Premnath Sundharam, AIA, CEM, serves as Chief Climate Officer | Senior Principal for DLR Group. As a recognized thought leader on sustainability and research-informed design, he drives innovation to advance technical design and practice while leveraging data to evaluate the impact of design on users and the environment.

He guides the firm’s commitments to positively impact climate change and provides leadership for the energy services, high performance design, smart buildings, and sustainability teams. Prem has 20 years’ experience and has worked on over 9M SF of sustainability and performance analysis spaces, including over a dozen net-zero projects. Prem has served on the board of USGBC Arizona Chapter and has been recognized as an emerging leader by the Design Futures Council in 2014.

He is a Certified Energy Manager who has taught courses on net-zero energy design and simulation, and was one of the first WELL accredited professionals in the nation. Prem played an instrumental leadership role to ensure DLR Group was an early and notable signatory of the 2030 Commitment. As an architect with an engineering background, he is a passionate advocate for sustainability and the aims of Architecture 2030.

Traci Sym President of the 2024 SEGD Board and has served on the board since 2019.

Traci Sym is a founding principal at +&>. An award-winning experience designer and Creative Director, she began her academic and professional career in the performing arts, where her theater experience shaped the foundation of her design practice. Traci’s approach centers on exploring the emotion and intent of design- examining the perspectives, experiences, arcs, and interactions of audiences to enable designed environments and systems that feel both familiar, yet provocative.

Prior to founding +&>, she lead the experience design and media practice at Skylab Architecture and served as the Experience Design Director at Second Story Interactive Studios. She has directed the development of significant permanent exhibitions at major institutions in North America including the Natural History Museum at LA County and the Denver Botanic Garden. She has designed large-scale interactive projects for various global brands and institutions and spent more than five years designing exhibitions and installations at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, DC.

Juanita Wichienkuer is an award-winning architect and exhibit designer with broad experience in design, building, and construction project management. She has done extensive museum work as the Head of Exhibit Design for Smithsonian Exhibits, and while at Ralph Appelbaum Associates led exhibit design for the History Galleries at the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History & Culture. She has also led hospitality projects as the Director of Architecture & Interiors for Atelier Ace / Ace Hotel. Her work has been exhibited at the Venice Biennale, MoMA, and the New York Center for Architecture, and has been published in the New York Times, CBS News 60 Minutes, and Architectural Record. She is currently a Senior Exhibit Design Director at G&A.

Juanita holds a masters of architecture degree from Parsons School of Design where she received the Alpha Rho Chi Medal and a bachelor of arts in architecture from the University of California, Berkeley with a minor in History of the Built Environment. She has taught at Cornell University with Pritzker Prize-winning humanitarian Shigeru Ban on disaster relief shelter, and at Parsons School of Design on representation and spatial analysis.

Genell creates experiences that bring people from all walks of life together and make it easier for the individual to dream. From studying many languages, cultures and working abroad, she has made it her life’s mission to continually rediscover the commonalities of what inspires us as humans and transcends all barriers. What elicits joy, curiosity, and a feeling of empowerment for the experiencer? Genell is also very passionate about science and technology. She has spent many years designing fireworks displays, programming laser shows, concepting and installing large-scale video experiences, and studying photonic technology. So far, ‚ÄúPhoton Wrangling‚Äù ‚Äì conducting a multisensory experience with multiple forms of light, has been a highly impactful and rewarding way to inspire and bring people together.
